Malta is a small island country in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Italy. Mentioned in the Bible as the island where the Apostle Paul shipwrecked while being transported as a prisoner to Rome, Malta has a long history of Christianity. Over the years, however, the Maltese church became part of the local culture to the point where many people on the island only go to church on special occasions and few have a personal relationship with God.<\/p>

It was to this island that Cornel<\/strong> and his family moved two years ago. \u201cThe reason we went to Malta was to reach the Maltese people,\u201d he explained simply. The island has a large influx of people from other countries in the cities \u2014 around 30 per cent \u2014 but his family felt drawn to the smaller towns where the expats are few. \u201cWe took a year to just be there, listen, meet with pastors, see what they need, see what God is already doing and then think, Okay, what does God want us to do?\u201d<\/em> recalled Cornel. \u201cWe didn\u2019t want to come and say \u2018Okay, this is what we are doing,\u2019 because I think that is a very arrogant approach. It was really for us to be there and see what God is doing and then join into that and mobilise people towards the least reached with that.\u201d<\/p>

One thing that immediately stood out to the family was the opportunity to work among Malta’s teens.<\/p>

Starting back in 2010, Cornel attended three TeenStreet Europe events while serving with OM in Ireland. The experience left a distinct impression on him, and he dreamt of returning to the event with a group of Maltese teens. \u201cWe really wanted to mobilise teenagers to get a heart for seeing the least reached reached, and I think [TeenStreet] is a great place to develop that heart in the teenagers,\u201d Cornel explained.<\/p>

The youth groups on the island often partner and collaborate with each other, as there are so few youth, and Cornel began attending youth events and sharing the vision of TeenStreet and about the annual TeenStreet Europe event in Offenburg, Germany. Soon, 11 teens signed up to attend the event in August as the first-ever group sent from Malta to a TeenStreet Europe event.<\/p>

The teens needed to raise funds to cover the cost of the week-long event, as well as the travel costs to get there. Eager not to let the money deter them, the group came up with creative ways to fundraise. One teen decided to write to local business owners in their small town, and although they weren’t Jesus followers themselves, some helped support the teen financially.<\/p>

The teens from Malta enjoyed their time in Germany, meeting young people from 37 countries and experiencing a week full of activities such as Mainhall\u00a0sessions, Shhh Time, small groups, outreach, seminars, workshops, Throne Room and much more. Teaching from the book of Proverbs, Mainhall speakers focused on the topic PATHS, Wisdom\u2019s Call, looking at topics such as where wisdom comes from, the art of listening, the power of words, your heart as the source of life, how to live out wisdom in your life and why who you surround yourself with matters.\u00a0<\/p>

Regarding their favourite session of the week, Cornel shared that \u201cA lot of the guys said that the prayer night was really impactful for them, just praying together and having different ways to pray.\u201d<\/p>
